JCAEOP's Symbol
hummingbird flower

The hummingbird is like the Office Professional:
They are strong fliers.
They can fly in any direction - up, down, backwards and forwards.
Some fly long distances.
Many are noted for their brilliant color.
Many are iridescent.

They represent freedom, beauty, and joy.
They are fascinating creatures of God.
The sweet taste of the nectar is the joys in life.
As they touch blossom after blossom, they spread this
Joy and the love and caring they have gathered to all
the lives they touch.

What heavenly tints in mingling radiance fly!
Each rapid movement gives a different dye.
Like scales of burnished gold they dazzling show
Now sink to shade, now like a furnace glow!

by Alexander Wilson, 1776-1813
Early American Ornithologist

Notes on staff

Why do hummingbirds hum?
Because they don't know the words.

No, it's because their wings flutter at high speed -
an average 38 beats per second - creating vibration
that to humans sound like humming.
